Atascadero USD: The Story Behind The Decision to Adopt Solar

February 20, 2018

ForeFront Power prides itself on providing excellent service to school districts large and small across the United States. At Atascadero Unified School District in California, the ForeFront Power team developed two systems totaling 316 kilowatts (kW).

Capitalizing on Net Energy Metering Aggregation, our team developed a 210 kW ground mount system adjacent to Atascadero’s maintenance yard that provides clean electricity to not only the maintenance yard and district office, but also San Benito Elementary School and Del Rio Elementary School. This 3-in-1 approach allowed the district to capitalize on economies of scale and draw savings from otherwise unused district land.

Another 105 kW ground mount system was installed at Santa Rosa Elementary School. Through a PPA solution, the District expects to reduce its annual energy expenses by over 35%.

The video below shares this story directly from leaders of Atascadero Unified School District in California. Superintendent Tom Butler, Director of Support Services Stu Stoddard, and Principal Tim Sobraske describe their motivations for solar, the procurement process through SPURR, and overall impact on the community.
